Double joy for Fleming
Friday, October 12th, 2007Goalkeeper Greg Fleming has been rewarded for his early season form with a first International call-up.
The Gretna youngster has been drafted into the Scotland U21 squad for the friendly fixture against Holland at the Rosada Stadium on Tuesday night.
It caps a terrific few months for Fleming, who has earned much praise for his performances between the posts after being handed the number one jersey.

“I’m delighted to get the call-up as it would be an honour to represent my country,” he said.
“It’s great to be involved in the International set-up and it’s nice to get recognition for my performances. I’m looking forward to joining the rest of the squad now and hopefully I will get a chance to play on Tuesday.”
Furthermore, the 21 year-old has cause for a double celebration after agreeing a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at Raydale Park until June 2009.
“It was an easy decision for me to make,” he said. “Getting the chance to play every week in the SPL is fantastic and I look forward to every game.”
“I’m very grateful to Davie and Mick for giving me an opportunity this season and hopefully I can continue to repay them.”
“I’m pleased with how things are going at the moment and I’m very happy at the club. We could obviously be in a better position but the signs have been good and I’m sure we’re not far away from getting the results we deserve.”
Director of Football Mick Wadsworth added: “It coincided well with our view of Greg and his importance to our club and the SFA’s view of Greg and his importance to the country.”
“It’s been a tough start to the season for Greg and he’s had more work to do than most, so it’s richly deserved. He is still very young and has a lot to learn but he undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him.”
