Rangers Reserves 2-2 Gretna Reserves
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007A late leveller from new-boy Henry Makinwa earned Gretna a share of the spoils against a strong Rangers side at Broadwood.
The Nigerian striker struck with three minutes remaining to rescue a point against Ian Durrant’s side, who finished the game with ten-men.
Gretna took the lead after 16 minutes when Erik Paartalu met a cross from Davie Graham and fired past Calum Reidford from 12 yards.
The Aussie midfielder should have doubled the visitors’ advantage moments later but Rangers equalised when Charlie Adam found the top-corner with a great strike from 20 yards.
Makinwa had the chance to put Gretna back in front after a mistake by Amdy Faye but Reidford did well to turn his shot around the post.
Rangers began to force the play and Alan Gow saw a header come back off the crossbar while Kirk Broadfoot had an effort cleared off the line.
Their pressure paid off however, when Thomas Buffell curled them into the lead ten minutes into the second-half after a lay-off from Steven Lennon.
But they were reduced to ten-men when Gow was shown red by Pat Rafferty for violent conduct after a clash with Fraser McLaren.
And Gretna took full advantage of the extra man to take a point back down the road when Makinwa unleashed a terrific shot from 25 yards.
Gretna: Caig, Tait, Cowan, Faulds, Deverdics, McLaren (Shultz-Eklund), Paartalu, Hogg (Robinson), Graham, Makinwa, Buscher. Subs not used: O’Hara, Grant.
