We deserved more
Sunday, December 16th, 2007Head Coach Davie Irons was disappointed to leave Rugby Park with only one point from Saturday’s enthralling clash with Kilmarnock.
Gretna had the lead three times thanks to goals from Gavin Skelton, Danny Grainger and Evan Horwood but they were pegged back on each occasion.

And Irons believes his side deserved to take more from the game after a dominant first-half display.
“We really had a go at Kilmarnock from the start,” he said.
“We created numerous chances and hit the woodwork twice but we always knew we needed a second goal.”
“Again this season we’ve had some real good performances without getting our just reward. Today and in particular the first 30 minutes and people who were there watching would agree we should have been three or four up.”
“We should have had the game out of sight but unfortunately we didn’t.”
“So I don’t think anyone could begrudge us a point today. At the very least we deserved that, if not the three.”
“It’s disappointing to be pegged back three times after going ahead. We switched off a couple of times, certainly at the second and third goals, as we shouldn’t have allowed the crosses to come in.”
“It’s the same harsh lesson every week that you can’t afford to switch off at this level.”
“But we have to take the positives from the game and there were plenty today. Offensively, that was probably the best we have played this season and we looked dangerous.”
“Within ourselves and the club in general we have always believed that we can turn things around. We know it will be a big task but we are not going to give up the fight.”
