Gretna Football Club wish to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Phil O’Donnell and Motherwell Football Club after the tragic death of the 35-year-old.

The former Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder collapsed moments before he was due to be substituted in Motherwell’s 5-3 victory over Dundee United at Fir Park today.

Despite receiving attention from medical personnel from both clubs, the captain died at 5.18pm in Wishaw General Hospital.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Gretna are with Phil’s family, friends and team-mates at Motherwell during this desperately sad time.
