McGuffie joins Morton
Monday, December 31st, 2007Midfielder Ryan McGuffie has brought an end to his five-and-a-half-years at the club by signing for Morton.
The 27 year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the First Division side and will put pen to paper when the transfer window opens tomorrow.
McGuffie joined Gretna in 2002 and made 182 appearances for the Black and Whites, scoring 32 goals.
He was the first Gretna player to score in both a major Cup Final and a European competition and Head Coach Davie Irons paid tribute to the midfielder.
“Ryan has been part of this club from day one,” he said.
“He has been a terrific player for us and will go down in history as one of our most recognised players.”
“On behalf of everyone at Gretna, I’d like to wish him all the very best for his career.”
He trained with the squad for the final time this morning but won’t have to wait long for a reunion as the two clubs meet in the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup in twelve days time.
