Duo take charge at Morton
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008Davie Irons and Derek Collins have been appointed as the new management team at Greenock Morton.
The duo resigned from their posts at Gretna after being offered the vacant positions at Cappielow last night.
They replace Jim McInally and Martin Clark at the First Division club, who are fighting their own relegation battle this season.
Irons joined the Black and Whites as player / assistant Manager to Rowan Alexander in 2002 and has been an integral part of the clubs success in the last five years.
He became caretaker manager during Alexander’s absence in March 2007 and helped secure promotion to the Premier League on a dramatic final day of the season.
The 46 year-old was then appointed Head Coach in the summer but leaves Gretna nine points adrift at the bottom of the table.
He is joined by former captain Collins, who returns to Cappielow three years after leaving for the Black and Whites.
Fans favourite Collins is the holder of the record number of appearances for the Ton, having spent over 15 years in two spells in Greenock.
The club would like to thank Davie and Derek for their valued contribution and wish them every success in their new jobs.
Director of Football Mick Wadsworth, assisted by Iain Scott and Andy Smith, will take charge of first-team affairs until further notice.
