PFA chief visits club
Monday, March 10th, 2008PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart was at Raydale this afternoon following the club’s decision to move into administration.
The players’ union boss spoke to the squad after training to advise them on the impending process and revealed his concern for their future.
“Having been involved in this situation many times before, I know the consequences for players are not good,” he said.
“I presume that some of them will lose their contracts but that’s not clear and I need to speak to the administrators first to see what their plans are and hopefully we can all find a way to help Gretna survive.”
“The players are in limbo at the moment. If they become unemployed, they then have a mad scramble to find themselves other clubs before the end of March because they are bound by transfer regulations.”
“It’s not a pleasant situation for them and they are just waiting to see what the administrators plans are.”
“In the meantime, they are being asked to play games and to turn up and train as normal, so it’s a testing time for them mentally.”
“They are preparing for the game against St Mirren knowing that they could pick up an injury then be made redundant at the end of the week. But they are in good spirits and at the end of the day they just want to play football.”
“They are also extremely worried about Brooks Mileson’s situation because those that have been here for some time have grown to like him and they are concerned about his health.”
