New venue confirmed
Monday, March 17th, 2008Following discussions over the weekend and today it was agreed by the SPL that Almondvale Stadium, Livingston, will be the venue for the Gretna v Celtic fixture on 23rd March (kick-off 2pm), and the Gretna v Inverness CT fixture on 5th April (kick-off 3pm).
The announcement comes after Motherwell’s game against Celtic on Saturday became the latest in a long line of postponements at Fir Park this season.
Our landlords are currently exploring various options to improve the beleaguered pitch including the possibility of laying a completely new surface.
“This is the most difficult and unprecedented fixture situation that we have faced,” said Lex Gold, Executive Chairman of the SPL.
“Our priority over the past weekend has been to confirm the arrangements for Gretna’s match against Celtic which will now take place in Livingston.”
“Arrangements are also now in place for Gretna’s match against Inverness CT and we thank Livingston, and the other clubs with whom we have been in discussion, for their assistance.”
“The remaining Gretna home game against St Mirren will be allocated in the coming days.”
“Further developments in relation to Motherwell’s other home games will depend on the work currently being done to assess when Fir Park will available again for SPL matches.”
