Barney moves on to pastures new
Friday, March 21st, 2008It is with regret that Gretna Football Club announce the departure of Head Groundsman Paul Barnett.
Barney has been with the club since 2003 and has won numerous awards for developing and maintaining the Raydale pitch.
He was named Third Division Groundsman of the Year in 2005 and scooped the Second Division prize the following season.
Last year he finished runner-up to Colin Fraser of Livingston in the First Division but he has now decided to move on.
“I’d like to thank all the players and the staff that I’ve worked with at the club,” he said.
“Especially Phil Smith, who has worked alongside me for the last four years. We have put a lot of time and effort into creating a high standard of playing surface.”
“I’ve made many friends here and have enjoyed great success, so I leave with good memories. It was a hard decision but I’ve been involved in football for 20 years and I felt it was time for a new challenge.”
The club would like to thank Barney for his dedication over the years and wish him well for the future.
