The Academy
The Gretna Football Club Youth Academy is based at the University of Cumbria, Penrith Campus at Newton Rigg.
The campus presently accommodates 20 young Gretna professional footballers between the ages of 16-18. They have use of excellent facilities which include a grass pitch, a full size third generation astro-grass pitch, fitness suite, gymnasium and fully equipped classrooms.
The boys education is met by the university, with those who are suitably qualified and who wish to pursue a sporting career, placed on a two year Sports Science programme, which on successful completion is equivalent to two A Levels / Highers.
Those who do not meet the criteria or quite simply wish to pursue other avenues with their further education, with the assistance of the Scottish Football Association and Scottish Enterprise, every attempt is made for them to placed on a course 'fit for purpose'.
