The conditions for the game were awful. A bobbly surface allied to a strong blustery wind sweeping diagonally across the park meant passes were frequently going astray. Our hosts coped with the conditions far better than we did and were worthy winners at Glenesk Park.

After the many postponements due to the dreadful winter weather we have all been experiencing recently, it was good to be back playing. The visitors to Raydale for our first league fixture since the 23rd November were our Youth Cup conquerors Hearts.

The Youth Team’s Scottish Cup adventure is over for another year after a clinical Hearts side won the Fourth Round tie at Raydale. They had to come from behind however, as Gretna took the lead with the first attack of the game on 2 minutes.

Gretna forward Liam Cusack has been named Clydesdale Bank Premier League Under 19 Rising Star for November. The Rising Star award is a monthly award voted for by the Under 19 coaches at each of the 12 Clydesdale Bank Premier League clubs.

Two goals in each half helped Hibernian to victory over Gretna on a cold afternoon at Raydale Park. The Black and Whites won in Edinburgh on the opening day of the season but tasted defeat after a clinical display from the visitors.

Gretna will face Hearts in the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup after the draw was made at Hampden earlier today. Iain Scott’s youngsters breezed into the next round with a 5-1 win over Ayr United on Sunday while the Edinburgh side overcame Alloa Athletic 7-2.

Gretna cruised through to the fourth round of the SFA Youth Cup after a 5-1 win over Ayr United at Somerset Park. Goals from Dan Robinson (2), Nathan Taylor, Nicholas Faulds and Liam Cusack helped Iain Scott's side to a comfortable win.

Two goals in each half sent a young Gretna side crashing out of the South of Scotland Challenge Cup at the Second Round stage. Andy Smith’s team, with an average age of just 16, dominated much of the game at Raydale but were punished for missed chances and defensive mistakes.

Gretna came from two-goals down to earn a share of the spoils against Inverness Caley Thistle in an entertaining game at Raydale Park. Overall they were by far the better team and they continue to impress in their first season in the SPL U19 League.

Gretna face an away trip to Ayr United in the Third Round of the 2007/08 SFA Youth Cup. Iain Scott’s youngsters will be looking for another extended cup run this season after reaching the Quarter-Final stages last year.

Following a disappointing start to our previous league game against Aberdeen, we paid special attention to our warm up against our next opponents Celtic. The focus was on firing up the muscles to a heightened state so that the players were highly charged for the start of the game.

Aberdeen survived a second-half fightback from a spirited Gretna side to hold on for three points in the SPL U19 league. After the game Aberdeen coach Neal Cooper paid compliment to the Gretna players describing them as an exciting team to watch and acknowledged that they had been lucky to win.

A controversial second-half penalty was the difference between the two teams after a close game at Raydale. It started with both teams squandering possession and not preparing to take the initiative, chances were few and far between with neither goalkeeper having to make a save of note.

The U19s hosted Kilmarnock last Saturday hoping to put the memory of their performance against Rangers behind them and this was a well deserved result which will hopefully go a long way to restoring their confidence.

Prior to this game we had acquitted ourselves very well, unfortunately we chose this day to produce our worst performance of the season. The disappointing thing is that we know our squad have so much more to offer, but they are not the first team to freeze against Rangers and they won’t be the last.

The U19s suffered a narrow defeat to Motherwell in their first home game of the new season at Raydale Park. After the game their manager Chris McCatt paid a nice compliment to our players, saying that we were the best team they have played and that our passing and ball retention were excellent.

The U19s kicked-off their campaign in the SPL with a terrific away win at Hibs despite ending the game with just eight men. Goals from Liam Cusack and Mario Campagna ensured victory while Ryan O'Hara, Ran Robinson and goalscorer Cusack saw red.
